Ready for Dynamics GP

Some people get excited about movie releases. Others fangirl (or fanboy) over the latest book in their favorite series. But what do we here in the TGO Consulting office get all worked up about? The impending release this June of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2, for one thing!  (If only we could figure out some sort of costume to celebrate the occasion… Maybe a wizard’s robes? Or a Jedi master’s cloak?)
Yep, this release is on par with any new installment of a cult movie classic. It’s even got the perfect name for it – R2?! D2!!  And we want you to be just as excited as we are. So to get you in the spirit of next month’s big event, here are some tips on what you can do now to get ready for the update. (These ARE the tips you’re looking for….)

  1. Get the scoop on all the new features.

This is a big part of why you’re upgrading in the first place, right? So make sure you’re aware of all the new features you’ll have access to with this new release – and believe us, there are a ton! Not only is this important just so that you can get the most from the upgrade, it’s also vital in understanding how you may need to change your company’s procedures in order to utilize them fully. The way you do things now may not allow you to take full advantage of certain new capabilities, so you may want to start thinking now about where to make tweaks.

  2. Double check the environment requirements.

Every new release brings with it some changes, so it’s a good idea to make sure that your environment will support the latest version of Dynamics GP. Check to see what’s needed this June. And if it turns out there’s an issue, no worries – you’ve still got plenty of time to get your system ready.

  3. Test, test, and test some more.

Upgrading your ERP is a major undertaking, so it shouldn’t be done without sufficient testing to ensure that everything will go smoothly on the big day – and every day thereafter. Test the entire upgrade process in an isolated environment to catch any issues or changes you’ll need to make beforehand, check out how well the new features you’ll be using will work in your company’s system, and test individual users’ daily functions, as well. You should understand fully ahead of time how the upgrade will affect every aspect of your workflow.

  4.  Read up on steps to take and possible issues.

This is one manual you’re going to want to read cover to cover.  It’s got important information on scripts and next steps that you’ll need to use in your upgrade. And don’t forget to take a close look at known issues, as well, so that you can get the fixes or avoid them altogether. Every detail is significant when it comes to making sure your business runs smoothly.

So get those plastic light sabers ready, and take these four steps to ensure that you’ll be ready to party when Dynamics GP 2015 R2 is released this June! Contact us here at TGO Consulting today for help upgrading your ERP – we’d be happy to take you on as our Padawan.
